FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Senior Research Associate.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Research Associate, a key figure in the University's institutional research and effectiveness processes, is responsible for managing all institutional and program-level (large-scale) assessments of learning. This person, with their experience in institutional data and research, is adept at interpreting and presenting data. Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness (OIRPE), the Senior Research Associate works collaboratively to understand, develop, and support the University's institutional research and effectiveness processes. They review student learning outcomes and use the assessment results to continuously improve student learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assists the Research Data and Enterprise Manager with managing and implementing administration and data collection processes for all institutional surveys. Prepares summative reports.
  • Proficient in the retrieval and reporting of IPEDS historical data.
  • Assists the Research Data and Enterprise Manager with data analysis, interpretation, and preparation of college data to respond to external requests from private, governmental, and accrediting bodies. Organize, present, and maintain information in tables, charts, and spreadsheets and proofread correspondence for all data reports and requests.
  • Assists the Executive Director of OIRPE in the oversight and evaluation of curricular and co-curricular assessment processes, both residentially and online.
  • Assists the Executive Director of OIRPE with developing and conducting training programs for all University colleges/schools and departments in systems and processes that define assessment needs, including articulating learning outcomes, mapping curricula, and designing data collection instruments/approaches across residentially and online disciplines.
  • Supports all University colleges/schools, departments, and assessment coordinators in developing assessment strategies and instruments for departmental learning outcomes, both residentially and online.
  • Assists in the analysis of university assessment data with an emphasis on ensuring the use of assessment results to formulate and implement continuous improvement of student learning at both the program and institutional levels, residentially and online.
  • Remains knowledgeable of SACSCOC Standards to support institutional compliance and accreditation.
  • Assists with data management and assessment processes leading up to the completion of compliance reports.
  • Assists the Research Data and Enterprise Manager with incoming data requests and proofreads them for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists campus partners, faculty, and committees with projects as specified by the Executive Director.
  • Supports the Executive Director of OIRPE with developing policies and processes by providing pertinent institutional assessment knowledge.
  • Provides appropriate support for the Academic Department's compliance with programmatic or discipline-specific accreditation agencies while promoting measures for ensuring consistency across all such external reporting.
  • Assists in the management and processing of Title III budget for OIRPE, including requisition requests, order supplies, and additional requests of the Executive Director.
  • Manages the OIRPE calendar, including travel, hotel, and all conference registrations for the department.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree and 5+ years in higher education with a relevant combination of assessment, data analysis, institutional research, and survey experience. Demonstrated competency can be considered equivalent where appropriate.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, SAS or SPSS, Cognos and/or Tableau, preferred.

  • The ideal candidate for this position should be highly motivated, able to work as a contributing team member, independent thinker, and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and operating procedures of the university and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with officials, subordinates, students, organizations, and staff.
  • Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in maintaining and preparing complex administrative, fiscal, or academic records and statistical and fiscal reports.
  • Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.
