FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor of Animal Nutrition.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

Job Summary

This position is a 12-month non-tenure-track research appointment at the Agricultural Research Station, College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology, at the Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Station is seeking candidates to address critical and emerging issues in the field of ruminant nutrition including but not limited to improved nutritional content of the product, reducing an environmental footprint in climate smart livestock management, exploring alternative feedstuffs, and assessing the role of nutrition in the wellbeing and health of the animal. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and establish a competitively funded independent research program, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The responsibilities will also include recruiting students for the animal science program, serving on institutional committees, and providing services to professional organizations, the University, and the community

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition.
  • Must demonstrate competency in using available statistical software.
  • Evidence of research excellence is expected in the area of ruminant nutrition.
  • Ability to generate external funding is expected.
  • The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues in teaching, research and extension is essential.
  • Experience beyond the Ph.D. is desirable.

Salary commensurate with training and experience.

Working conditions

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with travel as required. Must be able to work outdoors with variable environmental conditions as required for research.

Physical requirements

The individual must be able to walk on uneven ground, navigate in tight space, handle sharp knives and other cutting pieces of equipment, and lift about 50 pounds.
