Research Assistant - Agricultural Research
Job Summary
The Research Assistant will work in the area of Agricultural Research with the Scientists and graduate students in Plants Biotechnology and Plant Environmental Soil Sciences. The assistant will provide support for research by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and performing operational duties associated with the research to perform general maintenance work in the lab, greenhouse, and plant research plot and Biotechnology lab.
This is a full-time, 12 month, benefits-eligible position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in procuring laboratory, greenhouse and field materials and supplies
- Conduct experiments, collect and analyze data
- Conduct statistical analysis
- Coordinate research work conducted by graduate and undergraduate students
- Assist in installation, operation, repair and maintenance of laboratory, greenhouse and field equipment
The above mentioned duties and responsibilities are representative of nature and level of work assigned are not necessarily all-inclusive
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BS degree in Plant Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Biology or related technical field
- Knowledge of plant biotechnology, micropropagation, Agronomy, soil sciences, crop sciences, field crop production, and horticultural research
- Knowledge of DNA analysis, PCR techniques, Protein analysis, Secondary metabolite analysis, TLC, HPLC work
- Minimum six months experience in Environmental Sciences, Horticultural research & Biotechnology work
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment in Environmental Social Sciences and plant biotechnology laboratory
- Knowledge of and experience with statistical packages
- Must have effective written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to work in team environment
- Must have positive attitude
- Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
Preferred:
- Master's of Science and 1-2 years of experience
Working conditions
Ability to work outdoors and indoors; Ability to lift/carry items up to 40 lbs., as needed
Evening and/or weekend work may be required at times.
Physical requirements
This work is mostly standing and some bending; some field work is required.
