Payroll specialist
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Payroll, this position is responsible for assisting with the processing of biweekly and monthly payrolls and other payroll-related transactions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides support and assistance with the processing and validation of biweekly and monthly payrolls
- Performs detailed review of payroll prior to submission
- Troubleshoots and resolves payroll discrepancies as needed
- Resolve problems and responds to faculty, staff and students concerning time entry, absence requests, and paycheck inquires
- Provides assistance with payroll and benefits reconciliation processes
- Provides assistance with month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Associate's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited institution
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of payroll accounting processes
- Ability to adhere to and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex, multifaceted problems
- Skill in decision making and problem solving
- Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Customer service experience
Preferred:
- Two years of related experience
- Experience in higher education environment
- Experience using ADP, HCM, and Peoplesoft systems
Working conditions
- Occasional travel for training purposes may be required.
- Work environment is climate controlled
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
