FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), located in Central Georgia, is a comprehensive institution offering 37 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. As one of Georgia's three public HBCUs, FVSU is the state's only 1890 Land Grant Institution of the University System of Georgia. FVSU offers undergraduate and graduate programs at its 1,365-acre main campus in Fort Valley, as well as online, and graduate programs at its Warner Robins Center. FVSU has repeatedly been recognized by multiple publications as the top public historically black college in Georgia, including US News and World Report, 2019 and 2020 Best Colleges rankings, and the Washington Monthly, 2019. Job Summary
The Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for assisting with the creation, implementation, and oversight of marketing and communications programs that effectively describe and promote the institution and its academic programs and initiatives. The role has strong writing skills and supports the development and supervision of all marketing and communications strategies for the university including the ability for effective storytelling. The communications manager will help with maintaining the brand integrity of the university and conduct media relations outreach to include developing and nurturing relationships with news reporters with a goal of strategically positioning the institution as a leader in higher education.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Write feature stories and creates engaging content for various formats including websites, social and print materials
- Proofread and edit all content before publication
- Works to strategize, plan, develop and execute marketing and communications campaigns including digital campaigns
- Strategically work to maintain social accounts to build audience and increase engagement
- Creates informative and timely content (press releases, magazine articles, internal communication).
- Work with external partners and internal faculty/staff/students to produce marketing collateral in accordance with brand messaging and guidelines.
- Assist with developing, managing and maintaining all online communication channels including website and social media.
- Manages information dissemination to include developing communication plans and schedules.
- Ensures projects are moving forward in a timely manner, which includes maintaining editorial and project calendars, reviewing copy and creative, working with stakeholders to troubleshoot and find solutions to challenges
- Stays abreast of current issues and trends related to marketing and communications. Research, benchmarks, and implements best practices for effectively communicating with key constituent groups. Tracks and assesses marketing and communications initiatives to report success metrics, outcomes, usage, etc.
- Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
- Serve on several committees including the university's ERT.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field of study
- 5 years of direct work experience in a marketing management capacity
- Excellent understanding and familiarity with brand building and brand management
- 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.
- Previous marketing and communication experience at an institution of higher learning a plus (but not required)
