Head Coach - Women's Basketball

Job Summary 

The Head Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for the conduct and oversight of all aspects of a comprehensive, high quality NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Program in accordance with the guidelines established by the department, the University, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the NCAA.  This is a fulltime, 12-month position and is housed within Student Affairs and reports to the Athletic Director. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provides vision, leadership, organization and supervision for all facets of the women's basketball program to ensure a highly competitive and successful program.
  • Create an atmosphere of and demonstrate a commitment to compliance with all applicable NCAA and SIAC conference and institutional policies, rules and regulations.
  • Teach and demonstrate specific basketball skills.
  • Recruit, train and coach student-athletes participating on the women's basketball team and serves as a mentor and exercises leadership, especially to the women's basketball student-athletes and assistant coaches.
  • Support student athlete academics and athletic excellence, leadership development, team development and community service.
  • Provide administrative oversight for all aspects of the program including team travel, practice scheduling, competition scheduling, game management, fundraising, recruiting and monitoring the academic progress of student athletes.
  • Develop and oversee assistant women's basketball coaches.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the department's Title IX and gender equity plans.
  • Engage in effective communications to support relationships with student athletes, families, alumni and friends.
  • Develop, manage and oversee the women's basketball operations budget in accordance with department and university guidelines.
  • Adhere to and support the department and university mission.
  • Continued commitment to engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years basketball coaching experience
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Knowledge and experience with the distribution of scholarship awards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and SIAC rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administration
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in public relations activities, to include television and radio interviews, and press conferences, as appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress and anxiety 

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administration

  • Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress and anxiety 

 Preferred: 

  • Master's Degree
  • Previous Head Coaching experience at Division I or Division II university level

Working Conditions 

  • Extensive travel required during playing season and recruitment season
  • Evenings, weekends during playing season and recruitment season
  • Working outdoors in hot and cold weather, and exposure to elements such as  rain, snow, dirt, fumes, and loud noises 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period of time
  • Demonstrate the techniques of basketball moves, stances, etc.
  • Lift or carry up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead
