Emergency Management Specialist - Limited-term/Temporary Position

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, is seeking candidates for the Limited-term/Temporary position of Emergency Management Specialist for the Office of the President.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.


JOB SUMMARY:

This is a limited term/ temporary position. This position will provide professional, administrative and technical support in the coordination of specific programs and services implemented by the office of emergency management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a leadership role in the institution's COVID-19 Testing efforts.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of the Student Community Health Ambassadors, including their role in COVID-19 Testing and follow-up for students.
  • Assist in coordinating campus COVID-19 vaccination efforts if and when the vaccines are made available on campus.
  • Assists in the development, testing, review, revision, and distribution of the overall University emergency operations plan, and of projects associated with the University pre-disaster hazard mitigation plan.
  • Provides backup to the Emergency Management Coordinator during the activation of the University Emergency Operations Center and in the event of a large scale emergency.
  • Responds 24/7 to large scale emergencies at the University.
  • Develops and delivers training; writes articles for newsletters and other informational brochures.
  • Assists the EMC in coordinating periodic campus events to highlight emergency preparedness and security awareness matters.
  • Assists the EMC in conducting risk assessments and developing departmental and site specific emergency plans
  • Acts in the absence of the Emergency Management Coordinator.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Some knowledge of emergency management principles.
  • Ability to serve as lead worker.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, complex emergency policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and handle competing demands.
  • Ability to collaborate well with others across the University.
  • Ability to listen effectively, work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Health, Microbiology, or related field, or have taken courses in a related area.
  • Three to four years of related work experience; preferably in an institution of higher learning.
  • Incident Command System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification of courses 100, 200, 700 and 800 preferred.
  • Administrative work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Health, Microbiology, or related field
  • 5-years of experience in the following area(s):
    • Human Resources, Medical Professional Office Experience
    • Healthcare, Nursing, Medical Case Management
    • Medical office or health care environment
    • Experience in patient care
  • Contact tracing knowledge is a plus
