Director of Alumni Affairs
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Alumni Relations directs all aspects of alumni programming that seek to engage alumni with the University and to develop relationships that encourage alumni to advance the university's mission by volunteering, mentoring, attending events, and making financial contributions.
Specifically the Director of Alumni Relations directs, manages and administers all matters that enhance the university's abilities to weave alumni into the fabric of the University -- from managing reunion programs and event planning to growing and overseeing volunteer engagement opportunities to encouraging alumni to become mentors to students and to financially support the university. The Director of Alumni Relations will build effective relationships with departments including enrollment management, student affairs and career services, and marketing and communications to effectively engage alumni.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Directs, manages and administers all matters that enhance the university's abilities to weave alumni into the fabric of the University Serves as liaison between alumni and the university; coordinates alumni events.
- Manages reunion programs and event planning to grow and oversee volunteer engagement opportunities to encouraging alumni to become mentors to students and to financially support the university.
- Builds effective relationships with departments including enrollment management, student affairs and career services, and marketing and communications to effectively engage alumni.
- Coordinates activities with fundraising staff in order to identify and cultivate major gift prospects and to build programming opportunities that encourage philanthropic support.
- Establishes and builds relationships with alumni locally, regionally and nationally; maintain regular communication with alumni via direct contact and the coordination of alumni communication programs such as e-mail, the website and print communications.
- Develops and enhances geographic, academic and affinity group alumni programs through the planning and implementation of events and other alumni gatherings and engagement.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

- Knowledge of alumni services principles and practices.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and methods.
- Knowledge of volunteer management principles.
- Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Vice President assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include FVSU National Alumni Association bylaws, the University System of Georgia Code of Ethics; and university and Board of Regents policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied duties in coordinating the university's alumni affairs and career services functions. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to provide support for the work of the Alumni Association. Success in this position increases alumni engagement and assists students with post-graduation careers.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, students, alumni, volunteers, vendors, parents, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to motivate or influence persons, or to justify, defend or settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned part-time personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, sales, management, business, public relations or related field.
- More than three to five years of related experience required.
