FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Nursing.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for directing the operations of the Nursing academic department in the College of Arts and & Sciences. The position is a 12-month tenure track position with academic rank commensurate with education, experience, and expertise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the department's accreditation activities to ensure continued approval by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Georgia Board of Nursing.
  • Oversees curriculum development and revisions, including the preparation and submission of substantive change reports to accrediting agencies.
  • Ensures clinical contracts are current and maintained with affiliated clinical agencies.
  • Secures and schedules clinical site placements for nursing students enrolled in clinical courses.
  • Oversees annual assessment and reporting initiatives.
  • Oversees the student admissions process.
  • Directs student orientation and academic advising.
  • Addresses and resolves student appeals and complaints.
  • Approves course schedules and revises them as needed.
  • Monitors student enrollment during registration periods.
  • Maintains departmental statistics, including the number of class sections and average class sizes.
  • Plans and leads department faculty meetings.
  • Recruit, hire, observe, and evaluate the performance of the nursing faculty and staff.
  • Counsels faculty and staff regarding job performance and work-related responsibilities as needed.
  • Approves faculty and staff work schedules, leave requests, and faculty development reimbursement requests in a timely manner.
  • Oversees departmental and grant budgets.
  • Allocates funds for equipment purchases and other departmental needs.
  • Attends and/or ensures departmental representation at recruitment-related events.
  • Represents the department at meetings scheduled by the Dean, Provost, or other university administrators.
  • Instructs courses as needed.
  • Serves on university committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Serve as representative to university administration regarding all activities of the nursing program.
  • Monitor nursing faculty continued professional development.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with partner health care facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree in nursing
  • A minimum of three years in nursing education with a proven record of leadership of nursing education programs.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • A proven record of teaching, practice, scholarship, and service corresponding with the rank of associate professor
  • Requires an unencumbered Registered Professional Nurse License in the state of Georgia.
  • Demonstrated ability to expedite administrative processes with diplomacy and thoughtfulness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote nursing research, education, and service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently to accomplish goals.
