Associate Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator

Job Summary:

Fort Valley State University is seeking an Associate Head Football Coach/Defensive Coordinator.  This position is responsible for supporting the Head Football Coach by coaching, recruiting, monitoring academic progress, monitoring practice schedules, and scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete for FVSU's NCAA Division II intercollegiate football program.

 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of position(s) assignment as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Responsible for organizing and developing the FVSU defensive package.
  • Perform planning, organization and execution for on-the-field coaching duties as described and assigned by the Head Coach and Coordinator for all practice sessions and competitions.
  • Function in game day organization and assignments as prescribed by the Head Coach and Coordinator.
  • Assist in the overall vision of the football strength and conditioning program.
  • Provide evaluation of opponents and the development of a game plan in accordance with position(s) assignment as prescribed by the Head Coach.
  • Assist in the development of team rules and policies.
  • Responsible for supervision, instruction and direction of student athletes as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Perform duties with professional conduct, being fiscally responsible and with commitment to student-athlete well-being.
  • Abide by all written policies, procedures and guidelines of the University, the Department of Athletics, the National Collegiate Athletic Associate (NCAA), and all applicable conferences or associations.
  • Build quality relationships, work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, Pirate Club and University staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
  • Available to make appearances, perform media interviews, speaking engagements and support activities representing the Football program and FVSU's athletics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Overnight travel may be required.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and conferred by the time of hire required.
  • Football coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate or professional level required.

 Preferred:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five or more years of football coaching experience.

  Working conditions:

  • Travel required and campus activities.
  • Evening/night/weekend work.
  • Some overnight travel. 
  • Working outdoors and occasional attendance to community events.

  Physical requirements:

  • Ability to transport various football equipment.
  • Ability to engage in physical training activities.
