Assistant Comptroller/Director Accounting Services


Job Summary:

The Assistant Comptroller/Director of Accounting Services manages Grants and Contracts, Disbursements, Student Financial Services and Asset Management financial functions. The Assistant Comptroller/Director of Accounting Services is responsible for maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that University assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reports are prepared in compliance with all financial policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

List the primary job duties and responsibilities.

  • Supervision of Accounting Services functions which includes general ledger accounting, cashiering, accounts payable, student accounts receivable, grants accounting, assets management and cash management, annual financial reporting, audit preparation and internal control review.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed financial records and oversees the University's fiscal related activities.
  • Prepares and analyzes annual financial reports for management, the State Accounting Officer, and the Board of Regents
  • Utilizes advanced software functionality to create ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Maintains annual financial reporting model to ensure compliance with current year reporting requirements; assists with developing policies and procedures affecting financial reporting.
  • Effectively presents information to top management.
  • Monitors, interprets and assists in implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board and GA First pronouncements.
  • Acts in absence of Associate Vice President for Business and Finance.

Preferred:

  • Five or more years of experience in a Higher Education setting
  • PeopleSoft Financial Accounting software experience. Microsoft Office, Banner, Oracle Solutions i.e. Peoplesoft.
  • Knowledge of the Chart of Accounts and Annual Financial Reports of the University System of Georgia
  • Desire to obtain CPA certification
  • Knowledge of Georgia Department of Audits, Board of Regents Policies and Procedures and OMB Circulars: A110, A21, A133

Working Conditions:

  • Travel required - Minimal.
  • Evening/night/weekend work - Upon Request
