Accountant Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position performs accounting duties related to the operations of the Fort Valley State University Foundation.

 

MAJOR DUTIES

 

  • Manages and reconciles FVSU Foundation accounts.
  • Receives and reviews check requests from account holders; produces checks for these requests.
  • Inputs deposit information into software systems.
  • Prepares financial reports.
  • Provides assistance to donors and account holders.
  • Prepares acknowledgement letters for donations.
  • Delivers checks to university personnel.
  • Delivers and retrieves mail.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

 

  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of IRS regulations.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting and tax codes.
  • Knowledge of University System of Georgia policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

 

The FVSU Foundation Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

 

GUIDELINES

 

Guidelines include GAAP, fund restrictions, and university and Board of Regents policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

 

  • The work consists of varied accounting duties. Strict regulations and the need for accuracy contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to perform accounting duties in support of foundation operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, alumni, bankers, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table.
  • The work is typically performed in an office. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

 

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

 

None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than two years of related experience required.
