JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for coordinating the programs and services of the Reading and Writing Labs.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Reading and Writing Lab.
  • Trains and supervises undergraduate and graduate reading and writing tutors; issues daily work assignments; reviews work.
  • Assesses students' reading and writing abilities.
  • Develops student lesson plans.
  • Provides reports on whether or not students meet lesson goals.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Develops lab forms and documentation.
  • Serves on a various university committees.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of reading and writing pedagogy.
  • Skilled in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skilled in decision-making and problem solving.
  • Skilled in the completion of a variety of reports.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication

Guidelines include the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Title III grant requirements, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied supervisory, management and instructional duties. The unique needs of each student contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate the operations of the Reading and Writing Labs. Success in this position contributes to the academic success of students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position supervises student reading and writing assistants. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than two years of related experience required.
