This position provides mentoring and coaching support to program teachers.


  • Promotes the growth and development of beginning teachers to improve student outcomes.
  • Introduces and orients new teachers to the Head Start program.
  • Uses a research based framework to guide new teachers.
  • Uses assessments tools to guide teacher development.
  • Monitors teachers in classrooms to identify growth areas and provide guidance.
  • Works with teachers in assessing problem areas.
  • Models best instruction practices.
  • Provides feedback to teachers for the purpose of instructional support.
  • Helps teachers set short- and long-term goals.
  • Provides training in School Readiness.
  • Provides training in early learning standards.
  • Assists teachers in the incorporation of technology into the classroom.
  • Works with teachers to develop sound procedures for assessing student progress.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.



  • Knowledge of early learning principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of teacher training principles.
  • Knowledge of teacher assessment principles.
  • Knowledge of classroom technology principles.
  • Skill in the assessment and training of teachers.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.



Guidelines include Head Start standards and regulations, Georgia Early Learning Standards, and department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.


  • The work consists of varied teacher coaching and mentoring functions. The unique needs of each teacher contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide support to teachers. Success in this position contributes to the success of teachers in the delivery of instruction to students.


  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.





  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than five years of related experience required.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
