Job Summary

The Assistant/Assistant Associate Professor of Child Development is a full-time, ten month, tenure track position in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate level courses in a face-to-face, online, or hybrid format
  •  Coordinate and supervise student field experiences
  •  Coordinate on-going curriculum development activities to include web-based courses to accommodate traditional and nontraditional students
  • Advise undergraduate students; actively participate in recruitment of students
  •  Develop and maintain positive community relations with relevant child and family agencies; child and family development centers and other community outreach organizations
  •  Develop personal and undergraduate research, particularly as it relates to child  development and family relations
  •  Serve on College, Departmental, and University committees
  •  Seek external funds to support program activities and student scholarships
  •  Provide oversight and supervision of the Child Development Lab
  •  Participate in the continuous assessment, of student learning outcomes
  •  Provide service to the university and professional organizations
  •  Assist students in acquiring Internships and job placement
  •  Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum: 

  • MS or PhD in early/child development and/or family studies
  • Teaching experience (two years) in child development, family studies, and/or early development education
  • Experience in online teaching instruction
  • Experience in early learning care & supervising a child development lab and writing accreditation/self-study reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent analytical, oral, written communication skills and team work

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's)

  • Knowledge of infant and child development principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Quality Rated Child  Care practices
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check

Preferred: 

  • Five years teaching experience in child development, family studies, and/or early development
  • Demonstrated success in research and scholarly activities
  • Doctorate degree preferred
  • Experience working for a Land Grant University

Working conditions

The working conditions should be identified in this section - regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, and so forth.

  • Must be able to work with college student, traditional and nontraditional students
  • Must be able to report to work on a temporary basis as needed.
  • Must be able to teach in the evenings as well as during the day. Work hours will vary
  • Must be able to work with college student, traditional and nontraditional students
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to work

Physical requirements

Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Occasionally lift 20 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from waist to shoulder

Specific vision abilities required include close, distant color visions, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
